An inaugural donation of 1,000 synthetic samples to the South Carolina Compound Library (SCCL) from Charles Beam, emeritus professor of chemistry at the College of Charleston, added significantly to the growing compound library at South Carolina College of Pharmacy's campus at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

The occasion of the donation, which marked the official establishment of the SCCL, was celebrated with a champagne reception on August 7 in the MUSC Drug Discovery Building.

"These samples represent many years of research by Dr. Beam and his students, and the donation serves as a fitting tribute to his career," said Patrick Woster, professor and SmartState endowed chair in the drug discovery and biomedical sciences department at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy. "It is a significant addition to our growing library, which we're building into a world-class collection to fuel drug discovery in South Carolina."
