About Dr. Bender

During the course of his career, Dr. Bender has been responsible for the development of progressive pharmacy services, especially involving automation and clinical pharmacy programs in both inpatient and outpatient settings.Dr. Bender's current position is Director, Pharmacy Services, for the Greenville Health System (GHS) in Greenville, S.C. At GHS, he has the responsibility for overall management and administration of the pharmacy program, including Greenville Memorial Hospital, a 750-bed, academic medical center and five other community hospitals in the upstate region. He also is responsible for directing operations of five GHS retail pharmacies (including one that is long term care). Prior to his current position, Dr. Benderworked as a hospital pharmacy director, clinical and staff pharmacist, hospital pharmacy manager and retail pharmacist (independent and chain).

Dr. Bender is currently the Administrator of Pharmacy Clinical Education for the University of South Carolina/South Carolina College of Pharmacy, Greenville campus. He has taught courses in pharmacy and drug therapy management at the collegiate level. He is also a member of the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC)/Novation Pharmacy Executive Committee and past member of the UHC Pharmacy Executive Committee.
Dr. Bender has been active in state and national professional pharmacy organizations throughout his career. He is currently an active member and past presidential officer of theSouth Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists and an active member of the South Carolina Pharmacy AssociationAPhA and ASHP. Dr. Bender has received several state and national pharmacy awards and recognition for contributions to the profession of pharmacy, including designation as a Fellow of ASHP (FASHP).
