The MUSC Foundation
All gifts in support of programs and initiatives at the MUSC Campus of the South Carolina College of Pharmacy should be payable to the MUSC Foundation. The MUSC Foundation was chartered in 1966 as a charitable, educational foundation to support the education, research, patient care and other programs at the Medical University. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, contributions to which are tax-deductible.
The South Carolina College of Pharmacy, MUSC Campus has more than 35 funds at the MUSC Foundation established specifically to support College of Pharmacy activities in Charleston. These funds are either restricted or unrestricted. A restricted fund receives gifts for a specific purpose or area within the College. Unrestricted gifts are used to meet critical, but unbudgeted, priority needs. These two types of funds may be either expendable or endowment in nature. With an expendable fund, all gifts received, as well as the investment income earned, may be used at any time for the stated purpose of the fund. With endowment funds, only the investment income may be used. Only a portion of investment income is expended, so that the foundation's endowment funds will grow over time. The corpus is never invaded, thereby ensuring existence of the endowment fund in perpetuity.
New MUSC Pharmacy Education Facility
The South Carolina College of Pharmacy is planning for the construction of an 83,000 gross square feet facility to be located on the Medical University campus. This academic and research building will serve as the new home for the MUSC Campus pharmacy program. The new building offers numerous investment options, each providing you with an opportunity to have your name, the name of a loved one, or your business name displayed prominently in the College of Pharmacy.
Endowed Chairs and Professorships
Endowed chairs and professorships enable the College to attract world-renowned educators, researchers and clinicians. As well, Chairs and Professorships position the College as a leader in a particular field. Most often, endowed chairs and professorships are named in honor of the donor or another important individual and serve as a perpetual legacy of that person's commitment to the pharmacy profession. Approximately 90 percent of MUSC pharmacy students rely on financial support to pay for their education. With the PharmD education approaching $66,000, the need for scholarships becomes even more critical. Scholarships also enable MUSC to compete for academically talented students who are being aggressively recruited by other academic medical centers and universities. They allow us to retain “the best and the brightest” students. To learn how you can establish an endowed scholarship, click here.
